MEN’S INDOOR SOCCER
Thank you for your entry to Intrinsic Sports’ Indoor 5-a-side Soccer/Futsal competition.
Your entry will be confirmed on receipt of payment. Please note, we do not provide refunds for change of mind/withdrawal from a competition.
LOCATIONS
FUTSAL:
Tuesday and Thursday evening Mixed: Peter Forsyth Auditorium, Francis St, Broadway.
Wednesday evening Men’s and Mixed: Peter Forsyth Auditorium, Francis St, Broadway.
Monday evening Men’s: Sydney Boys High School, Cleveland St, Surry Hills.
INDOOR SOCCER:
Monday and Wednesday evening Mixed: St Andrews Cathedral School. Level 7, 474 Kent St, Sydney.
Thursday evening Men’s: St Andrews Cathedral School. Level 7, 474 Kent St, Sydney.
DRAW
The draw for the competition will be prepared once all the teams are registered. We will advise by email when the draw is available on the website www.intrinsicsports.com.au
RESULTS
Results, team standings and “MVP” points will be posted to the website.
RULES
PLAYER REGISTRATION
- All players must be 18 years of age or over and sign the team registration/indemnity form prior to taking the court at each game.
- Teams may introduce new players throughout the round’s games of the competition.
- Teams may borrow players from other teams to make a full team of 5 during rounds’ games ONLY IF the team can field enough of its own players to avoid a forfeit. A team may only use ONE substitute from another team AT ANY TIME during the game. Substitutes cannot be borrowed from a higher division of the competition, however it is possible for a higher-division player to make a permanent change to a lower-division team.
- New players may NOT be introduced during Finals.
- To be eligible to participate in Finals, each player must have signed on and played at least Two (2) games for the team during the rounds’ games.
- Players may play for only one team during the Finals.
COMPETITION POINTS
- Win = 3 points
- Draw = 2 points
- Loss = 1 point
- Forfeit = 5-0 Win to Opposing Team
Grand Finals
- Final games will be scheduled for all teams; not just those in the Top Four. Please note competition structure may change according to number of teams in a league; For example, if an 8 team competition, we will split the group into two (2) Divisions once everyone has played each other once then straight to Finals.
- If semis are played: 1st plays 4th, 2nd plays 3rd in semis. In finals winners of both matches play for 1st and 2nd position. Runners up play off for 3rd position.
- To be eligible for Finals players must have signed on and played at least two (2) games during the rounds’ games for their team.
- If the result is a draw in Finals, teams play Golden Goal. 3 minutes each way. If the score is still drawn after this time there will be a penalty shoot out.
Mixed Competition
- 5 a side:(INDOOR): Total players on court = 5, maximum of 2 males (Excluding the GK) on the court at all times.
INSURANCE
Please be aware that we are now offering and strongly encourage all participants to pay for Insurance.
If you are not insured be aware that Intrinsic Sports will not be liable for any claims that may arise from participation in its competitions.
All players must sign the Indemnity Form before the start of each game.
UNIFORMS AND EQUIPMENT
- All team players should wear identical coloured tops(Numbers not required). If opposing teams have same coloured tops, bibs are provided and a coin toss will decide who wears the bibs. note: due to health and safety concerns, team bibs will not be re-used, so please make every effort to ensure your full team is wearing a consistent colour.
- All players must wear shin pads (covered with socks).
- No watches or jewellery are to be worn.
- No glasses unless fitted with plastic lenses or covered with sports goggles; contact lenses are preferable if possible.
- No black soled shoes for the indoor competitions.
TIME FORMAT
- EVENING COMPETITIONS: (indoor) Game duration 35 minutes.
- LUNCHTIME COMPETITIONS (OUTDOOR): Game duration 30 minutes.
FORFEITS

- We all understand that from time to time situations arise that are out of our control and thus either through injury or misadventure, forfeits do occur. However it is the Team’s contact person’s responsibility to advise the Administrator with as much notice as possible so that the impact can be minimised.
- The first forfeit will be disliked but tolerated. The second will be severely frowned upon and an explanation as to how the team will prevent reoccurrence will be sought.
- The third forfeit will more than likely see the team replaced with no refunds.
- (5 a side) If a team cannot field 4 or more players within 5 minutes of the scheduled game start time then the team will forfeit. A friendly game may continue,If playing with 4 players, a maximum of 3 males, and minimum of 1 female may be on court.
- (6 a side) If a team cannot field 5 or more players within 5 minutes of the scheduled game start time then the team will forfeit. A friendly game may continue, If playing with 5 players, a maximum of 4 males, and minimum of 1 female may be on the field.
- If you know in advance that your team has to forfeit a game please phone Intrinsic Sports on 0413 382 432 as early as possible so that we can inform the other team.
ABANDONED MATCHES
- If a match is abandoned prior to half-time (due to rain or safety issues with the field of play), the match will be rescheduled for play later in the season.
- If a match is abandoned after half-time (due to rain or safety issues with the field of play), the match will be deemed to have been played, and the score at the time of abandonment, will stand.
Substitution/Interchange
- Players may substitute/interchange at any time during the match providing it does not interfere with play. There is no limit to the number of substitutions that can be made and the referee does not need to be informed.
RED / YELLOW CARDS
- Referees will use the FIFA Laws of the game and carry red/yellow cards. At the discretion of the referee, and depending on the infringement, a red card will carry a minimum one-match suspension.
- FUTSAL competitions: As per the FIFA rules, if a player has been red-carded, he/she may not re-enter the play, however after 2 minutes (or if a goal is scored prior to the 2 minutes), a substitute player may take to the court in the red-carded player’s place. However, this substitute player must be a member of the red-carded player’s regular team (not borrowed from another team).
INTERRUPTION TO SEASON
- Should a venue be unavailable for any reason beyond Intrinsic Sports’ control, the season will be temporarily paused and will resume once the venue is available again.
INDOOR SOCCER:
RULES FOR ST ANDREWS
Teams will be 5-a-side.
- At kick-off the ball does not have to go forward. A goal cannot be scored directly from a kick-off.
- When the ball goes out on the sideline, a kick-in is taken by the non-offending team. The defending team must be back at least 2 metres. A goal cannot be scored directly off a kick-in.
- When the ball goes out over the goal line, if kicked by the attacking team a goal kick is awarded. If kicked by the defending team, a corner is taken. A goal can be scored directly from a corner.
- If the ball should for any reason come into contact with the basketball rings above the goals, a goal kick is awarded no matter what team kicked the ball.
- If the ball should make contact with any part of the roof, an indirect free kick is awarded to the non-offending team directly below where the roof was hit.
- There are no offside, and players are allowed to move anywhere, including the goal keepers box (circle).
- A goal can be scored from anywhere on the court.
- Slide tackles are illegal and will be penalised with a direct free-kick. (Goalkeepers are given some leeway in defence of the goal – although this will always be at the referee’s discretion.)
- If a player is on the ground, they may not play at the ball, otherwise they will be penalised with a direct free-kick.
- The ball is in play at all times except when it either goes out over the sideline, hits the ceiling or basketball rings, or is caught behind the goal. Play will be restarted with an indirect free kick from the nearest point in play. Whoever touches it last gets a sideline kick-in awarded against them. If the keeper deflects it up onto the rim or backboard, the other team gets a sideline kick around that area. At all other times the ball remains in play unless the referee indicates otherwise by blowing his whistle.
- DISTANCES: When a player is taking a direct free kick or indirect free kick, defending players must be at least 5 metres awary from where the kick is to be taken. If these distances are infringed the referee can rule a kick to be taken again.
RULES FOR GOALKEEPERS:
- The GK is allowed to move anywhere on the court. The GK is only allowed to handle the ball within the GK’s area.
- The GK must release the ball within 4 seconds either whilst handling the ball or whilst the ball is at their feet.
- GKs cannot pick up the ball if it is passed directly back to them by one of their own players. This will be penalised with an indirect free kick outside of the penalty box.
- A goal kick may be taken from anywhere in the penalty box, and the goal keeper may throw the ball out rather than kicking it if desired.
- When throwing the ball, the ball must bounce once or touch another player before crossing the half way line otherwise an indirect free kick will be awarded where the ball bounced.
Players will abide by the referee’s decision at all times.
FUTSAL:
RULES FOR BROADWAY AND SYDNEY BOYS HIGH
GENERAL RULES:
- Teams will be 5-a-side.
- For mixed competitions, a maximum of 3 males are allowed on the court
- All kick-ins, goal clearances, corner kicks and free kicks have a four second time limit
- Slide tackles are illegal and will result in a direct free kick to the non offending team
- If a goalkeeper saves the ball he/she may move outside of the penalty area whilst the ball is at his/her feet and they have a four second time limit in possession of the ball(after passing halfway line, no time limit)
- The GK must release the ball within 4 seconds either whilst handling the ball or whilst the ball is at their feet.
- GK can not play a one-two with a teammate unless it is from a kick in from the side
- If a goalkeeper saves the ball he/she may either kick, punt or throw the ball out of the area(if they wish to play the ball out themselves they may but he/she must either release the ball or cross halfway within four seconds)
- The GK cannot play a one-two with a teammate unless it is from a kick in from the side
- All fouls are punished by either a indirect free kick or a direct free kick (yellow and red cards will be produced at referees discretion)
- The goalkeeper may not pick up a ball directly passed to him/her by a teammate (otherwise an indirect free kick will be awarded to the non offending team)
- The ball cannot be played by a player whilst he/she is on the ground
- If the ball hits the roof it is an indirect free kick to the non offending team
- If the ball comes into contact with the basketball rings it is a goal clearance
- No player can touch the ball with their hands whilst the ball is in play except the goalkeeper in their penalty area. An accidental handball will result in an indirect free kick and a deliberate handball will result in a direct free kick to the non offending team.
- For the 6th and subsequent team fouls in each half of a match, a 10m penalty will be awarded.
SUBSTITUTIONS:
- Unlimited interchange is allowed
- Substitutions must be made in the team’s defensive half, approximately 5 metres from the half way line. The substitute may not enter the court until the player they are replacing has left the court.
- The goalkeeper may be changed by way of a flying substitution (sub with a bench player only). Time is not stopped and the referee must be notified of the change.
- As per FIFA rules, if a player has been red-carded, he/she may not re-enter the play, however after 2 minutes (or if a goal is scored prior to 2 minutes), a substitute player may take to the court in the red-carded player’s place. However, this substitute player must be a member of the red-carded player’s regular team (not a player borrowed from another team).
A KICKOFF IS A WAY OF STARTING OR RESTARTING PLAY:
- All players shall be in their own half of the field
- The opponents of the team taking the kick off must be at least 5 metres from the ball until it has been played(otherwise the kick will be retaken)
- The ball shall be stationary on the centre marking
- The ball shall be deemed in play once it has been kicked and moves forward
- The kicker may not touch the ball for a second time before it has been touched Players will abide by the referee’s decision at all times.
